Love From Above

When it comes to real love we mortals are like an automobile with an empty gas tank. An automobile cannot produce the gasoline it needs to function. The gasoline must be placed into it from another source. We need an infusion of love.

The Bible was originally written in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. There are words in those languages for which there are no exact equivalents in English. Brotherly love, erotic love and agape love are very different but they are all translated into one English word love.

Unbelievers are only capable of brotherly love and erotic love. They are not capable of agape love. Agape love can be described as God*s kind of love, unselfish love and unconditional love. The agape love of God is immeasurably superior to the brotherly love and erotic love of men. God is the only source of agape love. Mortal men cannot produce it. The only way that we mortals can have agape love in us and flowing out of us is for God to enter into us bringing it with Him and sending it out of us.

Ephesians 3:17: That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

Romans 5:5: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

1 John 2:5: But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

2 Thessalonians 3:5: And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

1 John 4:16: And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

Agape love is a gift given to men by God. It is one facet of the gift of salvation. We can love with agape love only if and when God enables us.

1 John 4:19: We love him, because he first loved us.

Romans 8:39: Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ephesians 3:19: And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

1 Corinthians 13:8: Charity (agape love) never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

Galatians 5:6: For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

The Lord knows those hearts where He has deposited His love. We ought to know for ourselves whether it is in us or not by how we treat others.

John 5:42: But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.

1 John 3:17: But whoso hath this world*s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
